When Amy and Mark were looking to extend the space of their Brisbane home to accommodate growing teenagers, they found a customised version of our Sicilia Panorama 30 cabin ticked all the right boxes. With only a tight space available, the flexibility of the design allowed it to be altered to fit, with bi-fold doors opening out to a basketball court, lawns and gardens.
‘Over the last couple of years as the kids were getting older, we thought we needed an extra space for them to hang out with their mates and also a place for family to stay. So we thought this would be a perfect solution, to have a cabin in the backyard.’ Amy explained.
The fast and easy building process along with the ability to customise the design to suit their needs were key factors for the family, as the cabin needed to fit into a tight space in the backyard. Positioned next to the backyard basketball half court, surrounded by lawn and gardens, it’s perfectly placed for relaxed catch ups with friends or family get-togethers.
‘We modified the cabin to suit our needs, by making it a little bit wider and a little bit shorter, we removed an internal wall, we added a barn door to the bathroom.’ Mark recalls. The ability to see how the finished design would look before the build commenced also gave them confidence in their design choices. ‘Once the design process was complete, we received a 3D render, so we could visualise and review our decisions.’
The Sicilia Panorama 30 cabin is an open-plan space, complete with a living zone, kitchenette and bathroom. Constructed from sustainable mass timber, pre-cut in Europe, the build is completed fast, often within days rather than months. Mark and Amy chose to engage professional builders for construction, rather than DIY, and once the sub-floor was complete and the materials delivered, their cabin was ready fast.
‘We didn’t build the cabin ourselves … the construction company took about a week from beginning to end.’ Mark explains.
Aside from the beautiful look and feel of the timber, our cabins are extremely energy efficient. The natural timber elements also promote a sense of calm and wellbeing, and the cabin has been beautifully finished and furnished, making it an absolute joy to be in.
Amy is extremely pleased with the end result. ‘We love how it’s got a solid, quality feel about it, and also the exposed beams on the ceiling. We also love the double glazed doors and windows, which really insulates the cabin and makes it quite soundproof. We would highly recommend this cabin and the YZY people, they were absolutely amazing. The Queensland distributor, Adrian, was fantastic to deal with, and the builders were great. We absolutely love the overall feel of this cabin, it’s better than we ever could have imagined it to be, and it’s a great space for our family and friends, which will be used for many years to come.’
Mark agrees. ‘The speed of which it can be built, the ease of delivery, and also the finished product, it just is much more homely and feels … much more well-made. We’d definitely recommend it for anyone looking for an extra space in their house.’
