The year 2019 was a prolific one, it saw the construction of new Scandinavian cabins, granny flats and houses spread across Australia. YZY Kit Homes were used in varying ways. The larger units were utilized as homes, independent living spaces specially designed for teenagers, guest houses or bed and breakfasts. The smaller studio-type cabins were utilized as art studios, home offices, music rooms, pool houses and sheds.
Space is the primary driving force for the initiation of construction. Then the client gets in contact with a builder to develop potential ideas. Simultaneously, the builder focuses on the options and restrictions associated with the site. Following a few rounds of discussion, working in unison the best possible outcome is achieved. The results speak for themselves. Here are some of the cabins which came up in 2019.
Canberra Outdoor Structures recently built a garden cottage for Carly and Ben Drysdale’s family in Conder. Initially, the cabin was meant to be built as a sleepout for guests, but in the process young family found out they were expecting a second daughter and would have run out of rooms inside their house!
Looking back at 2018, it’s been yet another amazing year with many Scandinavian cabins, granny flats and even homes built across Australia. Use of YZY Kit Homes was very diverse. While larger 1 and 2 bedroom buildings were used as a main house, accommodation for guests or B&B, smaller studio-type cabins were mainly used as a teenage studio, a home office, parents retreat, a pool house and a craft room.
The need for more space starts the process. Clients consult with the builder exchanging ideas, builder looks at the site potential and restrictions. After a few discussions, working together teams find the most suitable solution. And the results are amazing, take a look at some of the cabins built in 2018.
Ex display cabin Crete finds its new life and purpose as Jennifer and Scott’s Pool House. Solid timber studio has served as a display cabin at Round about The House yard in Mittagong NSW. With the plans to build a larger cabin, local timber merchants put their display cabin Crete on sale. It just so happened that Scott and Jennifer visited the local timber yard with the idea of building a pool house from scratch.
“We actually went to our local timber yard looking to build a very specific sized pool house, the ‘Crete’ was on display there and just so happened to meet the size we had asked. We love the solid timber feel to the structure and it was very easy to construct.”
So, YZY Kit Homes cabin has found a new home in Southern Highlands beautifully set up in Jennifer and Scott’s backyard.
We asked Scott who’s ideas was to style the studio so beautifully?
“Jennifer, my very talented wife is responsible for styling”- Scott said.
“The pool house has allowed us to enjoy our pool a lot more, even when it is a little too cold to swim, it is nice to relax in and take in the serenity.”

Would definitely recommend Custom Creations to anyone, the professional work that this company did on our pool house is amazing not to mention the fact they turned up when they said they would and installed it in no time what so ever.
